What is published

The Biochemistry metabolism map draws Reactome's human metabolism as a single network in which pathways share their molecules, with exact ChEBI structures, enzymes and recent literature attached. It sits in the Learning sector because its job is teaching; the graph construction and layout are the research behind it.

Two instruments model the chemistry directly. Neuron integrates the Hodgkin–Huxley equations for a patch of squid axon membrane. Enzyme kinetics compares competitive, uncompetitive and mixed inhibition and runs the Sel'kov model of glycolytic oscillation.

The site also carries a release-locked evidence corpus for human α-carbonic anhydrases: 15 protein dossiers with structures, assays and reaction assignments, each traced to its source record.

Questions being worked on

  • How to lay out thousands of reactions so that shared intermediates, compartments and pathway territories stay readable at every zoom level.
  • How to attach enzyme, structure and literature evidence to a reaction without implying flux or tissue abundance the sources do not support.
  • Whether the map's reaction graph can serve as the network definition for kinetic simulation of central carbon metabolism, a concept under study.
